First-aid training 2015

First aid training at St John Ambulance Zimbabwe has been an incredible learning curve. The training which comprised of Advanced First Aid and Home-based care lessons. These were from 8am-4pm with breaks in between. All our effort put it will be worth it not only for competitions but also in the future.  We have learnt a lot from it and are hoping to use the knowledge and understanding we have gained to do our best in Hong Kong.

Community service :)

Its been nearly two weeks since we've had the opportunity to work as a team at the outreach program in Lumanda farm, Mount Hampdon Zimbabwe. First aiders (also known as cadets), as well as helpers from St John Ambulance We got the chance to speak with the people of the area, nurse the children and visit some of their houses close to the area where we were located. We, the cadets got the chance to rotate stations which included:
  • Registering the patients
  • Weighing and checking the temperature of the children
  • Addressing family planning for sexually active women
  • Assisting in the immunisation of the children
  • Administering medication to the patients
This experience made me realise that we are privileged and that we sometimes take things for granted. life is worth living every moment wisely.
