Visit to the Consulate General of Zimbabwe in Hong Kong

The console general of Zimbabwe in Hong Kong, Mr Mutizawazuka, visited us on campus on the 2nd of January to welcome us to the beautiful country. His greetings were appreciated by the team. He then invited us to his office on the 8th of January. We shared our thoughts about Hong Kong and he briefed us about his job. Despite the long walk to get to his office, it was a worthwhile experience. For the girls especially it was educational as we learnt about the history of Hong Kong as it was once a British colony.

We appreciate his support and interest in us whilst we were in Hong Kong.
Thank you :)

Day 8: 9 January: Evening Gala; Closing Ceremony

Lunch was amazing, the fried rice, sweet & sour pork and samoosas were mouth watering❤️
But unfortunately it was out last night in Hong Kong so the Hong Kong International Cadet Camp committee organized an extraordinary diner for us at Federal Cruise
It was a beautiful venue, well thought out decoration with an astounding view.

We shared our last night together all dressed up and ready to have fun. The closing ceremony was sad as the speeches were touching. Each cadet from each country all shed a tear as the watched the video displayed for us. It is unfortunate that all good things have to come to an end.

The evening Gala was a night to remember. We had a wonderful time in Hong Kong. We left the beautiful venue with souvenirs from St John Ambulance and abused the photo booth :).

Day 8: 9 January: Youth Symposium 2- Reflection

Our cadet team, Kowloon Bay, met again the next day to  reflect on yesterday's community service. We discussed how it impacted us and how we will make a difference at our home countries.

Everyone had their personal reflection, which they wrote on the Manila paper and it was amazing how we worked as a team to finish our project. We managed to complete it on time and make 3-D models of some of our activities using play dough.

HKICC, you have been great so far. Can't believe we are leaving soon. :,(

Day 7: 8 January: Youth Symposium- Old Age Nursing Home

After a delicious meal at Mc Donald's and a bit of shopping at Olympian City 2, we headed over to Lok Sin Tong Hoi Wang Road Nursing Home. This nursing home consisted of 123 elderly male and females. They are helped by nurses, physiotherapists and a few doctors. The elderly are taken care of by loving and humble people which are full of joy and always eager to take help the elderly with their needs. They live in a welcoming, sanitary home which consists of three floors.

25 Cadets from Zimbabwe, Hong Kong and Singapore all put in a helping hand to make the elderly happy. We sang for them, taught them our home language and  made them flowers. The greatest thing we did was make them smile :). It was a humbling experience and we all made unforgettable memories. The elderly were more than happy when we left and we all took something with us that we reflected upon.

Day 7: 8 January: St. John Ambulance HQ

We got the chance to visit St John Ambulance Headquarters. We went in groups as it was part of our Youth Symposium program. Everybody saw the ambulance and learnt how it works. The ambulance technician also explained to us the difficulties of their job and how they work around their job to protect the casualties always.

Day 6: 7 January: Disneyland :)

After the stressful competition and time put in for the cultural night. We were treated with a day at Disneyland Hong Kong. We got the Vance to live life on the edge and take risks. We went on rides we never thought we would, watched amazing fireworks and screamed our lungs out.

Most of all we had a good time!!!

Day 5: 7 January: Cultural night

The cadets performed a traditional dance called Jerusalema. This is a dance that involves instruments called Ngoma (African drum) & hosho (rattle/shaker). This was beautifully done and everybody put in a lot of effort to entertain the international contingents from different countries. It was also educational for us as we got the chance to witness different cultures and see a different perspective of life.

Day4: 5 January: BBQ Night

After a stressful day competing and showing off our first aid skills, we had a BBQ night. The cadets and teachers in charge cuddled together in groups and mingled and shared their joy and experience together at Hong Kong. With 10 other countries there was always something to talk about.

Day 4: 5 January: Competition Results💥💥💥

The Zimbabwe team had 4 members Anadele Mouafo, Maxine Mutendera, Vanessa Hodza and Lorah Dzimwasha. Our reserve was Melisa Kufazvineyi. We all put in effort to do our best and astoundingly Vanessa Hodza- team member 3, came a remarkable  first in the individual competition for Home-based Care 😬. New Zealand came first for the overall competition and the rest of the results are yet to be given to us. We had a memorable award ceremony and every participant was happy with what they got! HKICC has been amazing. Thank you Hong Kong.

Day 3: 4 January. Visit to Sai Kung Tin Hau Temple

It was interesting to see how the people of Hong Kong commemorate the people that fought for them and fed them when they were in need. This visit was educational and allowed everyone to learn a little bit more about Hong Kong

Greetings from Hong Kong

Finally in Hong Kong....
Despite the long flight, we have arrived safely. So far Hong Kong has been welcoming and we have had the chance to socialize with other countries. Today is the opening ceremony and there is lots of exciting things to do.
They are 12 countries all together and many contingents from each country.
